Packers QB Rodgers is number 1 NFL player, but there is a 1A

GREEN?BAY - NFL offseasons provide ample time for players, fans and experts to ruminate on subjects that aren't as easily answered as that of the best team in the game.? After all, that's what the season, playoffs and?Super Bowl are for.

A number of different polls, studies and experts' analyses this summer broke down where Packers QB?Aaron Rodgers stands among the NFL's best players, best quarterbacks, etc.

Here's where Rodgers ranked in three of those:

- ESPN's Ron Jaworski ranking top QB's:?No. 1

- NFL?Network's Top 100 players:No. 6 by players, No. 5 by fans

- Pro Football Talk (NBC) top 100 players (by media):?No. 1

Player greatness in comparison to team success is subjective - hence, the not-so-easy-to-answer aspect of this discussion.

However, I'd argue that Rodgers definitely belongs as top on the?NFL list - with a catch.

Make that a run, or a running back.

It just so happens that Rodgers is the game's best passer, but the game's best runner - Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings - happens to be just as valuable of a game changer as Rodgers is for the Packers.

Both are doing things in this league that we perhaps have never seen before.?

No one has ever combined the surgeon's accuracy of Bart Starr and the gunslinger's cannon of Brett Favre with such proficiency as Aaron?Rodgers.? In fact, he is the NFL's statistically top-rated quarterback.

No one except Peterson has combined the punishing power of Jim Brown with an elusiveness that nearly approaches Barry Sanders at his best.

We may be seeing the best players of their generation in Rodgers and Peterson, and it's not out of the question to someday put them both in the argument of GOAT (greatest of all time)?at their position.?

After all, Peterson is on pace to break Emmitt Smith's rushing record in the 2019 season, assuming health. ?(A big assumption with his injury history.)

To rank them one ahead of the other could be a futile proposition, partially because such a discussion is so subjective, and partially because they play different positions.

I'm willing to rank them at 1 and 1A, so long as the?Packers are ranked ahead of the?Vikings in the standings.
