PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) ? Tony Wroten scored 21 points and went 9 of 12 from the free throw line as he led Washington over Washington State in true comeback fashion 59-55.
Washington (20-8, 13-3) erased a 45-32 deficit with 11 minutes left in the game to win.
"We knew it was going to be a rough game - as rough as any game we had left in the regular season," Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said. "Our guys stuck with it and found a way to win, despite us shooting 35 percent."
Wroten was everywhere for the Huskies. After helping stake Washington to a 6-0 lead, the Cougars (14-14, 6-10) went on a 10-0 run and capitalized as the Huskies went scoreless from the field for nearly eight minutes.
Wroten broke the drought when he split the key for a layup. C.J. Wilcox followed by hitting four 3-pointers, his final one giving the Huskies a 20-18 lead.
The two teams traded the lead for the remainder of the half, with Washington hitting from the floor while the Cougars took care of business at the line, going 11 of 12, but only shot 27 percent in the first half while the Huskies shot 36 percent. The game was tied at 28-all at the break.
In the early stages of the second half, WSU scored baskets on three dunks and went on a 12-0 run to take a 45-32 lead.
The nearly 9,325 in Beasley Coliseum were loud and the Cougars seemed to have all the momentum.
But during that run the Cougars began to show weakness. First it was Brock Motum, who led the Cougars with 17 points, who stumbled, hitting a bucket but missing the ensuing free throw.
Abe Lodwick had a chance to put two more points on the board for WSU when he grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled on the put-back. Instead, he missed both free throws.
Ultimately, it came down to free throws. WSU finished the game 17 of 32 from the line, going 6 of 20 in the second half. The Huskies were only 2 of 5 in the first half, but finished 17 of 24.
"We made our free throws and they weren't as fortunate. That was probably the difference in the game," Romar said. "But it wouldn't have mattered when they were up 13. We were rolled over. Earlier in the year, that game turns into (a 20-point deficit) instead of us coming back."
Trailing by two with 13 seconds left in the game, WSU called a timeout. Patrick Simon entered the game for the first time and set up what could have been a game-winning scenario for the Cougars.
Simon found his way to the baseline and powered up a 3-pointer, but shot an airball. The Huskies were able to rip the rebound and Wilcox, who finished with 16 points, hit both free throws to seal the game.
The Cougars out-rebounded the Huskies 42-35.
Abdul Gaddy scored 10 points for Washington and Marcus Capers tallied 14 for WSU.

Ticket sales brisk for Mexico-Colombia friendly
Mexican and Colombian fans will be making their way to South Florida over the next few days for Wednesday night?s friendly at Sun Life Stadium. As of Friday, ticket sales were approaching 35,000, and thousands of those fans were expected to be traveling from out of state.
The club-level seats are sold out, and lower bowl seats are almost sold out. The game surely will draw the second-largest soccer crowd in that stadium?s history, behind the 71,000 that showed up in August to see Barcelona against Chivas. Both teams are bringing their best players, as they are using the match to prepare for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Timing RRSP withdrawals is important | Finance International

For all of the positives of RRSPs, there is one negative every RRSP investor will eventually have to deal with ? taxation. While some describe investment growth inside RRSPs as ?tax free,? I suggest ?tax deferred? is more accurate because eventually every penny of your RRSP (or RRIF) will be withdrawn as taxable income.
Recognizing that most Canadians prefer to pay less tax, the big RRSP question is: ?Are there ways to withdraw RRSPs tax free ? legally?? Yes, there are. Ignoring the Home Buyer?s Plan and Lifelong Learning Plan, which help fund your first home or an education, there are a few ways to pay less or no tax.
The first basic concept is to strategically time your withdrawals when your income is lowest. Since the basic personal exemption allows us to each earn about $ 10,000 a year tax free, if you had no other source of taxable income, you could withdraw this amount from an RRSP and effectively pay no tax. Your financial institution will withhold 10%-30% for taxes when you draw the money, but you should get this back when you file taxes if you have no other income.
Most of us can?t live on only $ 10,000 a year, but this idea can apply to more than hermits, especially now that we have TFSAs. If you retired a few years before your spouse, and they covered all of the expenses, you could draw the amount of the basic exemption each year from your RRSP tax free. Those who are single or not relying on the support of a partner could cover expenses by withdrawing from TFSAs or even unregistered equities that have capital losses. In both cases, there is no taxable income, so you can earn ? or withdraw from RRSPs ? the basic exemption without tax.
Even if you can?t withdraw your RRSPs tax free, timing your withdrawals to be taxed less might still be beneficial. If you could withdraw $ 30,000 a year in a 20% tax bracket early in your retirement, and were confident that your tax rate would jump to 35% or 45% later, it might make sense to take a smaller hit sooner, even though you give up years of tax-deferred growth.
The second fundamental way to reduce or eliminate tax on RRSPs is to create a tax deduction that offsets the tax on withdrawals.
A controversial approach that was popular in the past is the ?RRSP meltdown? strategy, where the offsetting tax deduction is created by the interest expense on an investment loan.
As an example, if you had $ 150,000 of RRSPs that was not critical to your retirement, you could withdraw, say, $ 10,000 a year over a 15-year period. Assuming a constant 5% cost of borrowing, $ 10,000 a year would cover the interest expense on a $ 200,000 investment loan. The tax due on the $ 10,000 RRSP withdrawal is offset by the $ 10,000 deduction for the interest expense, so you get your RRSP out ?tax free.? At the end of the 15 years you pay off the investment loan, essentially having converted your $ 150,000 of registered funds into hopefully a higher amount unregistered funds, which are taxed less as capital gains and dividends.
While an RRSP meltdown strategy can benefit the investor or beneficiaries on paper, it has many risks. Clearly, if you?ve never leveraged before, starting this riskier strategy when you?re near or in retirement, with funds that you can?t afford to lose, is a dangerous idea. Probably the biggest risk is related to timing and what?s called the sequence of returns. If you start the strategy just before a big market drop and your $ 150,000 quickly becomes $ 100,000, the $ 10,000 a year withdrawals will cause the RRSP to implode and not last 15 years. In addition, your $ 200,000 of leveraged investments will also be down a lot, resulting in significant losses and emotional stress.

Samsung HM1800
Like last year's Samsung HM3600?($59.99, 4 stars), the $39.99 Samsung HM1800 is?an inexpensive mono?Bluetooth headset with a small, minimalist design. It improves upon the HM3600 in a number of ways, but suffers from two of the same drawbacks. Poor noise cancellation and a lack of A2DP streaming mean that this headset is only useful if you plan to keep your calls indoors.
Design, Fit, and Pairing
The HM1800 measures 1.6 by .7 by .4 inches (HWD) and weighs .28 ounces, placing it among the tiniest Bluetooth headsets we've tested. Made entirely of plastic, with a black body and dark gray front panel, it looks unobtrusive and classy. The top edge is home to a hardware power switch and LED indicator light. The back edge holds a covered microUSB charger port, while the bottom edge features two volume control buttons. The front panel contains the headset's multi-function Talk button.
The headset features an on-ear design, which means the rubber ear tip rests on your ear rather than in your ear canal.?It comes with two identical, detachable plastic ear hooks, along with three different rubber tips. One of those tips is meant to be worn in conjunction with an ear hook, while the other two allow you to use the HM1800 without a hook. Of these, I found the hook to be the most comfortable, secure option. One of the standalone rubber tips fit my ear more comfortably than the other, but neither made the headset feel completely secure. Using the hook felt safer, and because the headset is so light, it barely felt like it was even there.
The HM1800 is automatically set to pairing mode the first time you turn it on. For subsequent pairings, just hold down the Talk button for three seconds until a voice prompt says "Ready to pair." The HM1800's uses a voice prompt-based interface that provides battery and connection status updates, along with usage instructions. I found it helpful, but you can turn it off if you'd like.
Voice Quality, Noise Suppression, and Conclusions
The HM1800 is a multipoint headset, so you can pair it with two devices simultaneously. For this review I paired it with an Apple iPhone 4S?($199.99, 4 stars) as well as a Samsung Galaxy Nexus?($299.99, 4 stars). I had no trouble pairing the headset to either phone or initiating voice dialing. Battery life is good, too, at 7 hours and 36 minutes of talk time. According to Samsung, the headset should last for over twelve days on standby. Given its small size, those numbers aren't too shabby.
Voice quality is mostly good, minus one key element: noise cancellation. Voices sound rich and full through the headset, if just a touch muddy. And calls placed with it are clear, if somewhat thin. Samsung doesn't specify what type of noise suppression technology the HM1800 employs, but calls placed outdoors were extremely difficult to hear, even when it wasn't that noisy. Lots of wind came through, along with plenty of ambient noise I barely even noticed while placing the call. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend this headset if you mostly plan to use it while on the go.
Additionally, the Samsung HM1800 doesn't support A2DP, so you can't use it to listen to streaming media like apps, audiobooks, music, or podcasts, on your cell phone.
The Samsung HM1800 is small, inexpensive, and features mostly good call quality. The lack of A2DP is understandable at this price, but poor noise suppression holds this headset back. The Plantronics M50?($49.99, 3.5 stars) is another good budget option, as it adds A2DP streaming into the mix, though it too suffers from mediocre noise cancellation. The?Samsung HM6450?($99, 4 stars) is a better buy, thanks to its improved outdoor transmission quality. While it lists for $99, you can pick one up for less than $50 from numerous retailers. And if you need to be sure you can use your headset anywhere, the?pricey Jawbone Era?($129.99, 4.5 stars) is tops for noise suppression, along with the previous-generation Jawbone Icon?($99.99, 4 stars).?

'Ben Hurt': Portland bike warriors smash and crash
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) ? Looking like punk gladiators, teams of young adults on junk bikes pulling chariots made of junk parts frenetically chased each other around a makeshift arena, slamming each other and swinging away with foam clubs.
Spectators tossed beer cans, flour and smoke grenades. Firecrackers popped and obscenities flew during the battle, called the "Ben Hurt Chariot Wars."
And then, toward sundown, the grown-ups arrived. Seven police cars pulled up and told all 400 or so people they had to leave because they were trespassing on railroad property. They complied. But the contest was over anyway.
Victors had already emerged: Jon Penfold and his teammate Nick Schlabach. Falls, collisions and smashed wheels eliminated the other teams. Penfold's and Schlabach's chariot, armored with a bubble-shaped metallic cage, was the last one still able to maneuver.
"You attack, and then run. Attack, and then run," said Penfold, 29. "It's a war of attrition."
Asked later on how he felt after winning, the 26-year-old Schlabach said: "I wanted to puke."
Oregon's largest city has an obsession with bikes. Thousands of people use them to commute to work each day. Lots of people sport fancy road bikes that they use to stay in shape. But it's not commuting or fitness that motivates the 20-something men and women at the annual Ben Hurt Chariot Wars.
They do it for the adrenaline rush, for the liberation that comes with acting like a kid, and for the parties.
The Chariot Wars are the headline event in a weekend of bike craziness called "Mini-Bike Winter," contests and parties held at various locations in the city. The term "mini-bike" derives from the origins of the games. They were started by a group who call themselves the "Zoobombers" and who get their kicks by riding pint-sized kids' bikes at breakneck speed down steep streets in Portland's posh West Hills, to the chagrin of many of the neighborhood's residents.
Another event in the weekend games is called "bike bowling." Instead of tossing a ball at nine pins, you hurl yourself and your bike against a huddle of plastic traffic drums ? the tall orange and white ones used by road construction crews. The goal is the same as in bowling: knock them all over. But the outcome can be painful.
At the Sunday "bike bowling" event held at a Portland public park, a young man went flying over his handlebars when his bike hit the drums. He landed on his shoulder and grimaced. It had been dislocated. While other participants kept riding their bikes into the drums, two people yanked on the injured man's arm, trying to get his shoulder back in place.
In another event, participants ride their bikes off a ramp and into the Willamette River. The water temperature at this time of year is in the 40s.
Safety isn't thrown completely to the wind during the "Mini-Bike Winter" games, though it may seem that way. There are rules. Weapons used in the chariot wars have to be well-padded. Competitors wear helmets and various other forms of protection.
Many of the competitors have bike repair skills, a handy asset for this kind of mayhem.
Efforts are made not to upset the authorities, at least too much. But run-ins do occur.
This year's Chariot Wars were held on about 100 square feet of concrete on land owned by Union Pacific Corp.
Ten minutes after Penfold and Schlabach won the trophy, police and a railroad official showed up. They talked with 28-year-old Jon Dutch, last year's Chariot Wars champion. The railroad official said a train was coming and the crowd had to leave.
"What's it gonna be, Dutch," said the official, who declined to be identified. "Do you want one of your brothers or sisters pinned under a train?"
Dutch shuffled his feet. He looked at the crowd of mismatched, overgrown kids in red hoodies and green skirts and purple leggings.
They all got on their kiddie bikes and into their chariots, heading for a post-Chariot Wars party that went late into the night. Some managed to make it to "bike bowling" and other two-wheeled mayhem the next day.

Deep tissue massage involves massaging slowly with strong pressure across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is particularly useful for those with tight muscles, postural problems and repetitive strain injury. This sort of massage is quite rough and may make you ache for a day or two afterwards before you begin feel better.
Shiatsu is one of the Japanese forms of massage therapy. It involves using the finger tips to apply pressure to acupuncture meridians. The pressure is applied for between two to eight seconds and is done on the same lines as acupuncture. It is soothing but does not cause soreness.
Thai massage is a bit like Shiatsu in that pressure is applied to pressure points but it varies in that joints are alternatively compressed and stretched in a comparable manner to yoga, but the masseur does all the work, the client just has to supply a compliant, non-resisting body. Thai massage is quite strong and many customers hurt for a day or two after a two hour session, but it is able to cure a bad back.
Far more gentle forms of massage are those types intended for babies and pregnant women. It is meant to relieve stress and anxiety rather than cure aching bones, joints and muscles. It is quite safe when practiced by someone who has been taught.
Reflexology is foot massage. Advocates of reflexology believe that areas of the foot are related to internal organs and so massaging a part of the foot is the same as massaging, say, the heart.
On top of these are various types of sports massages and back massages which are specialized in that they just work on the region that is likely to have been injured in a particular sport. There are other types of massage too, like scalp and head massage, but these are the most popular.
