Romney: Election about 'your family'
RENO, Nev. (AP) ? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has begun telling Americans the Nov. 6 election comes down to which candidate would be better for their families. He's trying to personalize the choice voters are making between him and President Barack Obama.
Campaigning in Nevada, Romney said the election isn't just about big ideas but also is about "your family."
He described tough situations facing seniors, families with children and the unemployed. At one point, Romney asked audience members to raise their hands to say if they experienced situations he had just outlined.
The remarks were a departure from Romney's typical campaign speeches, which usually have a broader focus.
After the speech, Romney headed for his second campaign stop of the day, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Sonic Jump by SEGA for iPhone and iPad review
Sonic Jump for iPhone and iPad is, in a nutshell, SEGA's version of the popular platform jumper Doodle Jump that features SEGA's iconic character Sonic the Hedgehog. There are two games modes, Story and Arcade, where you must jump and tilt your way up the levels collecting coins, defeating enemies, gaining abilities, and battleing Dr. Eggman.
Sonic Jump features two games modes: Story and Arcade. In Story Mode, you progress through different levels by jumping your way to the top. When you complete all the levels in a zone, you must defeat Dr. Eggman in a special boss level. In Arcade Mode, you simply try to get as high as you can without dying.
The first zone is fairly easy and doesn't include very many obsticals which is great for beginners because it helps you learn the controls and stategies for the game. For those who are "naturals" at this type of game, you may not find it very challenging, but just stick with it, because it gets a lot harder in the other zones. When you complete a level, you will be given a score based on your time, how many enemies you defeated, how many stars and rings you collected, and the number of power-ups you gained. If you die, you will be given a random tip on the screen that lets you start over.
The controls for Sonic Jump are very simple -- tilt your iPhone or iPad from side to side to move left and right and tap the screen to do a double-jump. I will admit that playing Sonic Jump is a little awkward on an iPad because of it's size, but I'm sure the iPad mini will be a great device for playing Sonic Jump.
Each level will feature various obsticals including enemies, moving platforms, breakable ledges, spikes, and more. To defeat an enemy, you must attack it from underneath (which is a bit counterinteritive when the enemy is a bee). If you make contact with something that causes damage, like spikes or an enemy by falling on it, then you will lose all your rings. If you don't have any rings to lose, then you die. You also die if you fall off the screen, as once your field of view goes up, there's no coming back down.
Other items you will encounter in Sonic Jump are chests that release a special power. These abilities include magnatism to help gather more rings, a protective bubble, a special ring that turns any enemy you get close to into rings, and more. If you jump on a safe, it'll deposit all your rings so that you can be sure that you won't lose them.
As you play the Sonic Jump, you are given various missions to complete that help you "level up". These missions are similar to those found in the popular arcade game Jetpack Joyride [Free - App Store link]. For example, a few of the available missions include wrapping around the screen 8 times in a Story Act, jumping on one platform 10 times, making 180 jumps, and collecting 500 rings. Some of the missions require skill, and some are just silly. At levels 17 and 20, you will be able to play as Tail and Knuckles, respectively.
As with nearly every arcade game these days, there is a store included with Sonic Jump. From here you can buy power-ups with rings that you've collected, or if you want to purchase rings with real money, you can do that too.

Russian activist said was forced to confess: rights workers
MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian activist was forced to confess to plotting unrest against the rule of President Vladimir Putin under threats made to his life, rights workers said on Tuesday after visiting the man in a prison once run by the feared Soviet-era KGB.
Russian investigators said Leonid Razvozzhayev had been charged with preparing mass disorder, a day after they said he had voluntarily signed a confession offering details of how he and other protest leaders planned to carry out the unrest.
Civil groups and opposition leaders say the case is meant to sideline activists through legal pressure which has mounted since Putin returned to the presidency in May.
Statements from two rights workers who met Razvozzhayev paint a picture of him being abducted in Ukraine, bound in a minivan with tape and taken to a basement on his way to Moscow where he was forced by masked men to confess.
"Razvozzhayev said that he was ... in the basement of a house and they forced him to write a confession threatening him with a 'truth serum' and likewise threatening the lives and health of those close to him," Anna Karetnikova, deputy head of the Public Oversight Commission of Moscow, which monitors the treatment of detainees, was quoted as saying by RIA.
His high-profile case has been linked with those of other protest activists, including Sergei Udaltsov, a prominent protest leader who has played a major role in organizing anti-Kremlin demonstrations.
Like Udaltsov, Razvozzhayev joined a protest movement that was sparked in December of last year by massive allegations that fraud had paved the way for the victory of Putin's United Russia party despite declining support.

They and another associate were named in a criminal investigation opened last week after a pro-Kremlin television station, using a hidden camera, aired footage alleging that they received money and orders from abroad to cause chaos in Russia.
All three could be sentenced to 10 years in jail if convicted.
Karetnikova said Razvozzhayev had asked for psychological treatment while in prison but that none was available in Lefortovo Prison, an infamous Soviet-era investigation ward.
"Thus far no one has been able to offer the detained psychological help," she said.
The case has additional political implications because the Investigative Committee which has taken up the case answers only to Putin.
Valery Borshchyov, head of the Public Oversight Commission of Moscow, said on television channel Dozhd that Razvozzhayev had said his arms and legs had been bound with tape and that he was not fed for three days or allowed to go to the toilet.
The man's supporters have disputed the accusations against him. A video posted on the Internet by opposition lawmaker Ilya Ponomaryov who employs Razvozzhayev as an aide shows him accusing the authorities of torturing him.
Since May, Putin has signed laws increasing restrictions on non-government organizations and raising fines for disorder at protests.
Ponomaryov said on his blog that Razvozzhayev had disappeared after visiting the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in Kiev.
The United Nations Refugee agency issued a statement on Monday saying that it was "deeply concerned about the disappearance" of Razvozzhayev in Kiev on Friday.

Flycatchers' genomes explain how one species became two
ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2012) ? Just how new species are established is still one of the most central questions in biology. In an article in the leading scientific journal Nature, researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden describe how they mapped the genomes of the European pied flycatcher and the collared flycatcher and found that it is disparate chromosome structures rather than separate adaptations in individual genes that underlies the separation of the species.
"We were surprised that such a large part of the genome was nearly identical in the two species," says Hans Ellegren, professor of evolutionary biology and director of the research team behind the new findings.
The big question in species-differentiation research today involves the genetic background of how two evolutionary lines gradually come to diverge from each other and ultimately cannot produce fertile young. Horses and donkeys, for instance, can crossbreed and produce mules and hinnies, but something in the genome of the latter makes them infertile. There must therefore be DNA sequences from diverging evolutionary lines that are not compatible.
Researchers at the Evolutionary Biology Centre, Uppsala University, are now presenting the genome sequence for the two flycatchers, which are the first organisms apart from so-called model organisms, to have their genome sequenced. They are also the first DNA sequences for a vertebrate to have been determined entirely by Swedish researchers and at a Swedish laboratory.
The Uppsala scientists have charted the genome of the flycatchers and then sequenced the entire genome of some ten individuals of European pied flycatcher and the collared flycatcher respectively. The two species occur together on the Baltic islands of ?land and Gotland, where they sometimes hybridize, that is, mate with each other.
The scientists have now managed to identify the regions in the respective flycatchers' genomes that are most clearly different. It turns out that it is a matter of one or a few regions per chromosome, and these regions coincide with the chromosome parts that are involved in meiosis and the production of gender cells (centromeres). This indicates that what underlies the separation of the species it is the disparate chromosome structures rather than different adaptations in individual genes.
"There is good reason to believe that this observation is highly generalizable and that it explains species differentiation across organism groups," says Hans Ellegren.
The European pied flycatcher, and later its close relative the collared flycatcher, have long been an important research organism for scientists at many universities. Their nesting (and thereby reproductive success) is rather easy to observe, as they readily inhabit deployed birdhouses. Over the years Uppsala research has laid a foundation for understanding many general aspects of ecology and evolution, with multiple doctoral dissertations and acclaimed research reports.

CORNELL (US) ? Religion?s influence on voter choice intensified between the 1980 and 2008 elections, but only among upper-income white Protestants and Catholics, a new study shows.
Every four years, the differences between the US political parties are thrown into sharp relief, thanks to presidential elections.
For the study published in the Review of European Studies, researchers analyzed two large surveys of voter choice.
The General Social Survey is a nationally representative, repeat cross-section of American voters across eight presidential elections from Ronald Reagan?s win in 1980 to Barack Obama?s in 2008, and the Cornell National Social Survey (CNSS) recovered identified presidential choice in 1,000 households for the 2008 election.
In addition to basic demographic information collected in both surveys, the CNSS included a ?biblical authority scale? to assess the degree to which a respondent agreed with such statements as ?The Bible is without contradiction? and ?The Bible is to be read literally.?
A thorough analysis of voter presidential choice and personal characteristics, from family income to race, gender, and religious identity, allowed researchers to identify not only the magnitude of polarization, but also its specific source within the general population.
?Upper-income white Protestants who believe the Bible is the literal word of God have more than doubled their odds of voting Republican?from 2.7 GOP voters for every one Democratic voter among this group in 1980, to 6.1 for every one in 2008,? says Thomas Hirschl, professor of developmental sociology at Cornell University.
?Conversely, secular-minded, upper-income white Protestants reversed their partisan preference, from 1.9 to 1 in favor of the Republican Party in 1980, to a 2.2 to 1 advantage for Democratic voters in 2008.?
A less dramatic but significant increase in religious-partisan differences was also found in upper-income white Catholics. Contrary to popular belief, this polarization was evident only in white households that had a total income greater than $75,000 (2009 equivalent) per year?the ?comfort class.?
?There was no comparable trend among lower income white Protestants or Catholics,? Hirschl notes. ?In addition, African-Americans remained loyal Democratic voters throughout the 28-year study period, regardless of their religious identity.?
The study data did not allow investigation of additional racial or ethnic groups. The finding that an increase in secular-religious polarization was restricted to the upper-income white voters, even during a period of increasing economic inequality, runs counter to the predictions of a society-wide ?culture war,? Hirschl says.
The study?s results are evidence of a decoupling of religious politics from the politics of economic inequality, presenting opportunities for the political parties to market themselves differently to different sectors.
?Overall, it?s clear that religious identity strongly motivates upper-income white voters, but does not seem to drive African-Americans or lower income whites headed to the ballot box,? says Hirschl.
?Heading into election 2012, there?s no doubt religious worldviews will continue to play an active role in presidential politics and little evidence to suggest this role will diminish in the near future.?

Google Stoops to a New Low! | Internet Marketing Secrets, Affiliate ...
I must say when I saw what I?m about to show you in this post I had to check it twice as I didn?t quite believe what I was seeing at first, but sure enough Google has stooped to a new low today in their never quenching thirst for more profit. I can?t confirm that this has been rolled out across the world, but it is happening where I live in New Zealand anyway.
Before I show you this I first want to lay down a little background. We all know that Google makes their money when people click their ads listed on a Google results pages and on other websites that are opting into the Adsense program. So obviously Google?s agenda is to get as many of these ads clicked as possible.
However stop for just a moment and remember what Google is useful for and why it has become such a popular tool for people to use in the first place. Google is a search engine, not a giant advertising billboard, let?s get that straight to start with. People use Google as a gateway to the internet, and Google is supposed to be showing a list of the most relevant websites related to a user?s search queries.
This all sounds well and good, what a great service, Google makes it easy for us to find websites right?well sort of, but over the years Google has taken advantage of their popularity and slowly but surely are moving towards being one giant advertising billboard and that?s it!!
What Happened to the Organic Listing?
Yes the organic listings, the websites that Google lists that DO NOT pay Google to be there. The ones that do SEO (search engine optimization) and get ranked on the front page of Google, what did happen to them? The way Google is going you might have to scroll to page 3 to find an organic listing soon.
Let?s take a look at a typical Google results page below that I see when I search in Google, so you can see where I?m going with this. This might not be the same for you, as possible Google is testing this out in some countries, New Zealand where I live being the perfect test place.
So you can see from that image that above the fold of the page now 95% of the real estate is taken up by NON ORGANIC listings. Google has now added an extra listing for ?Searches related to KEYWORD? just below where the Google Ads finish, thus pushing the organic results even further down the page.
When people click on these related results, it will load a new Google page which will of course show more Google Ads, and give Google another chance to get them clicked. This is just another aggressive trick from Google to stop people from visiting websites that are not Ads.
This is not the first time they have done dirty tricks like this, in fact Google is slowly but surely doing more and more of these cunning techniques. Don?t believe me? Well think back to 12 months ago when the background color of ALL ADS where a pink color that was obvious, so searches new if they were clicking on an ad. Well Google went from obvious pink to a light pink that was hard to distinguish without tilting your screen, to now being WHITE so you can?t tell at all!
But there?s more, Google use to make it very obvious what listings were ads by telling you, as they were say ?Ads by Google?, but I guess that was being too helpful so now they just have the words ?Ads? and I wouldn?t be surprized if they remove even that soon.
What amazes me is that the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) comes down on affiliate sites who don?t make it obvious that they make a commission from links on their sites, but they let Google continue down this aggressive and somewhat deceptive path of advertising.
Do Know Evil?.As Google Do Plenty For Us All
I get sick and tired of listening to garbage from Matt Cutts at Google telling us all to be transparent and put up QUALITY sites for the user experience when I see Google turn around and pull moves like this latest stunt.
One of Google Panda?s penalties was for sites that have too much advertising above the fold!!!!!! Can you see the irony in this, when a Google results page is essentially nothing more than one giant ad, as they push the organic results below the fold.
Google?s motto is ?do no evil? yeah right, you have to be kidding me, Google is shown quite clearly that they have no interest in helping people find the best website that meets their search query and instead want to show you the results that make them the most money.

Britain's first 4G service to start at 36 pounds a month
LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile operator EE said Britain's first 4G service will cost from 36 pounds a month under a pricing strategy designed to lure smartphone customers to its superfast network before rivals are able to launch competing products.
Chief Executive Olaf Swantee said the company's tariffs, which range from 36 pounds for 500MB of data to 56 pounds for 8GB, were about 10-20 percent more than for equivalent 3G plans. He said it was a small premium to pay for up to five times faster connections.
He declined to say how many customers the group, owned by France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom, expected to switch to 4G, which launches in 10 cities on October 30.
But he said EE had decided not to price 4G at the high premium seen in some other European countries.
"Our business model is more built around a fast adoption of 4G services ... because of our whole tariffing structure and tariffing strategy and because the UK in general has a big appetite to move to new technologies," he told reporters.
EE, which leads the British market with about 27 million customers, is able to roll out 4G before its rivals because the regulator has allowed it to re-use existing spectrum.
Telefonica's O2, Vodafone and Three will have to wait until next year to obtain the spectrum they need for their own 4G offers.
Swantee said the new service had already attracted a lot of interest from corporate customers, which currently provide just 14 percent of the group's revenues.
"We have a big opportunity on the back of a better, stronger, bigger 3G network, and being the first with 4G to get us into some new large accounts," he said.
Companies wanted fast mobile broadband so they could offer video conferencing and other business applications to workers, he said.
EE, previously know as Everything Everywhere, said it was spending tens of millions of pounds on publicity for the launch, including a television campaign fronted by film star Kevin Bacon, that will first air during the "X-Factor" on November 3.
All of the 24-month price plans available to consumers include unlimited calls and texts, the company said, although none includes a free smartphone, a stance taken partly to reduce fraud rates.

Story@Home is a conference that focuses on story. It is an excellent resource for genealogists who want to learn how to incorporate their family history into their genealogy research. You can learn how to preserve family stories from the past, and how storytelling helps to connect living family members.
The second annual Story@Home conference will take place on February 1, and February 2, of 2013. You can choose to attend both days of the conference, or, you can decide to attend for just one day. Each day has a different batch of workshops and presentations that will be going on.
The Family Story Slam will take place on Day 1 of Story@Home 2013. If you only attend Day 2, then you are going to miss it. The Family Story Slam is "a fast-paced event featuring five minute family stories based on the same theme and told before a live audience by people like you". You don't have to be a professional speaker or storyteller in order to participate. In fact, they are not interested in having people who are stand up comedians come and present a prepared routine.
The Family Story Slam is an opportunity for you to polish up one of your favorite family stories, and share it with others. Come to the event, and drop your name into a hat at the beginning of it. If your name gets drawn, then it is your turn to get on stage and tell your story! Each will be judged by audience members, who will assign a score.
The rules are simple. Pick a funny experience that involved someone in your family. Share what you learned about that person, about yourself, or about your whole family from the experience. Your story must be told in five minutes or less. It must be a true story from your own life. You cannot use notes, or read your story to the audience.
Keep in mind that in order for it to be a story it must have a conflict and a resolution. It is also good to note that this is not a place to give a rant, or to use as a form of therapy. Pick a funny story from the many that are a part of your family's history, and get it ready!

What is Glamping? Glamping is camping Hollywood Style! No Dirt, No Bugs, but pure?indulgence! The Hotel Bel Air ( which is where any Glamping experience should be) was transformed in to a Little Maven campground with activities and treats including: campfire sing-a-long, bracelet craft station, fishing, s?more making table, lemonade stand and a creepy crawly touch and feel table full of spiders and insects! In honor of the launch, jcpenney made a donation to Baby2Baby, a non-profit organization that supplies Los Angeles families in need with essential baby gear and children?s clothing. It has been a busy few months for Tori Spelling now mother of 4! Tori gave birth to Finn?Davey Mc Dermott, August 30th. We have learned later that Tori had an Emergency Post-Pregnancy Surgery and Tori now tells People.com ?that she can thank Stella for saving her life ! ?Following a girls night in with 4-year-old daughter?Stella?? husband?Dean McDermott?spent the evening in son?Liam?s room ? Spelling woke to find herself surrounded by ?massive? amounts of blood ? her third big bleed?during the pregnancy.
?I stumbled to the bathroom, dizzy from losing so much blood. When I got there, I thought, ?This is it,?? the actress told PEOPLE during?the launch of Little Maven?for?JCPenney?on Thursday in Los Angeles. ?There was so much blood I thought, ?I?m dying. ?Not just [losing] the baby, but I?m dying.?? The only one close by to call to for help was Stella ? and to this day the proud mama credits her daughter with saving her life.
?I had to scream for Stella and I?ll never forget the look on her face when she saw me surrounded by blood everywhere. I didn?t want to panic her and I said, ?Baby, will you go get Daddy? Just tell him I?m bleeding,?? Spelling recalls. ?Her eyes were as big as saucers and ? this is going to make me cry ? she looked like such a little toddler warrior. She said, ?Okay, Mama? and she ran. And two seconds later Dean came in and basically had to wrap me up to?get me to the hospital.?

BEIRUT (AP) ? Lebanese security forces unleashed a barrage of gunfire and tear gas in central Beirut on Sunday to disperse hundreds of protesters trying to storm the government headquarters after the funeral of a top Lebanese intelligence official killed by a car bomb.
The speedy ignition of the protests demonstrated the flammability of the country's divisive and sectarian politics. The protesters blamed the assassination on the government of neighboring Syria and consider Lebanon's current government to be too close to that embattled regime.
Many also chanted against Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group that dominates the government and serves as the Damascus regime's closest Lebanese ally.
As the battle raged, with protesters and security personnel pelting each other with hunks of concrete, metal bars and tear gas canisters, former Prime Minister Fuad Saniora appealed for calm.
"The use of violence is unacceptable and does not represent the image that we want," Saniora said in a televised address.
Even before Friday's bombing, the civil war in Syria had set off violence in Lebanon and deepened tensions between supporters and opponents of President Bashar Assad's regime. The assassination has laid bare how vulnerable Lebanon is to renewed strife, threatening to shatter a fragile political balance struck after decades of civil strife ? much of it linked to Syria.
Sunday's clashes erupted after the funeral for Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan, who was killed along with his body guard by a Beirut car bomb on Friday. Al-Hassan, 47, was a powerful opponent of Syria in Lebanon.
He was buried in Martyrs Square in downtown Beirut near former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, another anti-Syrian politician who was assassinated by a truck bomb in 2005.
Syria denied any role in Hariri's killing, but outrage in Lebanon expressed in massive street protests forced Damascus to withdraw its tens of thousands of troops from the country and end nearly 30 years of military and political domination of its smaller neighbor.
The scene at Sunday's funeral was faintly reminiscent of the huge, anti-Syria gatherings in 2005. But the crowd was far smaller than after Hariri's death.
More than 1,000 people walked about a quarter mile from the funeral site toward the stately, hilltop government headquarters. Only a few hundred clashed with the guards, tearing down metal barricades and hitting the guards with the sticks from their flags and placards.
The guards withdrew behind a tall barricade of concertina wire, which the protesters broke through, putting them within 50 meters (yards) of government headquarters. A few guards fired shots and one plainclothes officer pulled a pistol from his belt and fired over the protesters' heads. Then a roar of automatic gunfire erupted, sending the protesters scattering for cover.
It was unclear whether the guards fired in the air or shot blanks, but no protesters appeared to be injured.
In a telephone call with Lebanon's Future TV, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri urged the protesters to stop their attack.
"We are peace supporters and against violence," he said.
The security forces appeared woefully unprepared and their numbers were smaller than those usually deployed for much less contentious rallies.
After about an hour of clashes, more guards arrived, along with scores of helmet-clad commandos. They stood shoulder to shoulder across the road and blocked the protesters from advancing further.
Unrest broke out elsewhere in Lebanon, too. Protesters blocked major roads in Beirut and in the north with rows of burning tires and briefly closed the country's main highway to the south, the national news agency said.
Clashes also broke out in the northern city of Tripoli, with residents of two neighborhoods that support opposite sides in Syria's civil war exchanging gunfire.
Security officials have said six others were killed in the car bomb on Friday, and scores were wounded. But Lebanon's National News Agency said on Sunday that the final toll death toll was three: al-Hassan, his guard and a civilian woman.
The discrepancy could not be explained, though security officials said the other five victims were counted based body parts found at the blast site.
Al-Hassan headed an investigation over the summer that led to the arrest of former Information Minister Michel Samaha, a Lebanese politician who was one of Syria's most loyal allies in Lebanon.
"He was killed while he was defending his country," said Samer al-Hirri, who traveled from northern Lebanon to attend the funeral.
France's Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said it was likely that Assad's government had a hand in the assassination.
"Everything suggests that it's an extension of the Syrian tragedy," he told Europe-1 radio.
Sunday's protests quickly overshadowed the stately funeral for al-Hassan and his bodyguard.
Before the funeral, giant posters of al-Hassan were set up around Beirut calling him a "martyr of sovereignty and independence."
Thousands of mourners packed central Martyrs Square as soldiers carried in two flag-draped coffins.
"We came for Lebanon's future to show that we will not be scared," said mourner Rama Fakhouri, an interior designer. Many chanted that al-Hassan was a "martyr" who was struck down while trying to protect Lebanon.
TV footage showed al-Hassan's wife Anna, his young sons Majd and Mazen, and his parents, shedding tears near his coffin.
But the mood quickly changed. At one point, a Sunni cleric, Osama Rifai, gave a fiery speech, telling the crowd not to "be like women" and "take out their swords." Lebanese journalist Nadim Qutaish also called on mourners to "storm the government headquarters."
Both men's comments were carried live on TV and crowds of protesters approached the government headquarters soon after.
Al-Hassan's killing has set off a new round of political wrangling in Lebanon.
Before the clashes, Saniora called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to resign, calling his Cabinet the "government of assassination."
"Staying in your post means that you approve of what happened," he said, adding that al-Hassan's killers "had domestic help."
Many of Lebanon's Sunnis see Mikati's government as too close to Syria and the Assad regime, which is dominated by the Alawites ? an offshoot of Shiite Islam.
A member of Mikati's Cabinet, Ahmad Karami, told the LBC TV station that the prime minister "is not clinging to the post but will not resign under pressure because of the chaos in the country."
Some Lebanese see al-Hassan's killing and Sunday's violence as an extension of Syria's civil war into Lebanon. While Lebanon's Sunnis have largely backed the uprising, many others, especially Shiite Hezbollah, have stood by Assad.
For the protesters, the connection was clear.
"The Syrian regime started a war against us and we will fight this battle until the end," said protester Anthony Labaki, a 24-year-old physiotherapist.
For years after Syria's 2005 pullout from Lebanon, there was a string of attacks on anti-Syrian figures in the country with impunity. Assad managed to maintain his influence in Lebanon in the years afterward through Hezbollah and other allies.
Samaha, the former minister arrested in al-Hassan's investigation, remains in custody. He is accused of plotting a wave of attacks in Lebanon at Syria's behest.
Syrian Brig. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, one of Assad's most senior aides, was indicted in absentia in the August sweep that saw Samaha arrested. Samaha's arrest was an embarrassing blow to Syria, which has long acted with impunity in Lebanon.
