MADISON, Wis. (AP) ? The city of Madison is considering adopting an official motto: 77 square miles surrounded by reality.

The motto is a take on former Gov. Lee Sherman Dreyfus? jibe that "Madison is 30 square miles surrounded by reality."

Mayor Paul Soglin was mayor in 1978 too, when Dreyfus was running for governor. He told a Dreyfus aide that the statement was wrong, not in sentiment, but because the city had grown to 65 square miles.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports the resolution Soglin plans to offer the City Council on Tuesday would specify that the motto would be adjusted as the city keeps growing.
The resolution also says the motto fits the quirky city that adopted the plastic pink flamingo as its official bird in 2009.
