More and more QCA drivers are looking into 'going green.'?
"I'm kind of an environmentalist, and I'm tired of the earth being destroyed by us," Larry Keys of Davenport says.??
"Our society is dependent on oil and it's doing nothing but damaging our environment," Brian Griffiths of Silvis says.??
Drivers are looking into their options from electric to hybrids that use a mix of gas and electricity.??
"They're up astronomically; we have more and more vehicles we sell that way that offer some blend of arrangements," Eriksen Chevrolet Buick GM Tom Pospisil says.??
But not everyone is convinced just yet.??
"For a lot of people I think there's probably some concern about range, how far can you drive, and pricing for some folks," Pospisil says.??
?Car dealers say these cars have ranges between 40 and 70 miles before switching over to gas.?
"When you run out of electricity, it actually converts over, the gasoline, electric generator kicks in," Pospisil says.?
Many drivers are worried about charging their cars too.?
Charging stations have popped up all around the QC, and car manufacturers are now making it so any electric car can drive up and plug in, same as they would at home.?
"Even if you took it to California, you could get to a charging station and just plug it in and go," Pospisil says.?
Though there is increased interest in electric, sales haven't come close to cars that run on gas.?
"Electric is still a small percentage of what we sell," Pospisil says, "But that number is climbing all the time."?
As for if they will ever catch up, it's anyone's guess.??
"That'd be a good guess for the future, eventually if we run out of gasoline, yes," Pospisil says.?
For some drivers, price point is an issue too. Residents in Illinois can apply for up to $14,500 in rebates and incentives. In Iowa, drivers using electric pay reduced registration fees.
